Bee Update: Our farm’s two honeybee colonies are thriving, building up their population and foraging for nectar throughout the UTC gardens in West Philadelphia. On the frame pictured, the bees are raising young, making honey, storing pollen and building new comb. Photo taken by UTC’s newest beekeeper, Quinzell. Stay tuned for more adventures in urban beekeeping!

What are you doing with your Neighborhood Foods CSA veggies?
In CSA on June 11, 2012 at 9:09 pmHere’s a dinner prepared by one of our UTC staff members with Neighborhood Foods CSA veggies. It includes curried beet greens (onions being one of the ingredients as well!) on basmati rice, roasted baby beets, marinated and grilled zucchini, and grilled tofu. And for dessert – those yummy fresh strawberries served with organic vanilla ice cream!
Share with us what you’re doing with your CSA veggies and fruits! Send us photos, menus and/or recipes. Post them on our facebook wall or email Sue Witte at suegwitte@gmail.com. Enjoy!
Neighborhood Foods CSA is Under Way!
In CSA, Farm on June 5, 2012 at 10:03 amWe are three weeks into our CSA and very excited about all of the delicious produce growing at the farm. Weekly share items have included arugula, kale, beets, radishes, zucchini, strawberries, lettuce, and collards.
We were shooting to sell 50 shares and quickly exceeded our wildest expectations with 60 shares sold. We’d like to extend a big Thank You to all of our share members for supporting us this season! We are so pleased to serve you!
One happy CSA member even reported:
“I really wanted to let you know that we were floored with how incredible the produce was after tasting at least half so far!!! We all commented, including a call from my parents who are sharing a quarter, how delicious and absolutely wonderful everything tasted–really! We have been part of many CSA’s over the years and this one out did itself in taste, quality and quantity.”
Want to get in on some of the action? Head on down to our farm stand at Rittenhouse Market on Saturday! Not enough? We look forward to expanding our CSA next year! Look for sign-ups in the winter months!
