Saturdays 10AM – 2PM
N 53rd & Poplar Streets
Every Saturday we set up a farm stand across the street from our farm on a grassy piece of vacant land, renamed Neighborhood Triangle. The stand serves three main purposes. First it serves as a source for residents to purchase affordable, chemical free produce. Second, it provides a market place for local entrepreneurs who want to share their crafts and generate a little income. And third, it provides a community gathering place that serves as a platform for discussion about healthy lifestyles as well as a source for information about healthy eating, recipes for local foods, and blood pressure and other nutrition related diseases.
We began running this stand on June 4th selling only produce, and since then it has grown into a large community event. Lisa, one of the Neighborhood Foods Founders Group members now sells her beautiful artwork at the market. Gail, one of our work share members, is a chef and is dedicated to making and selling a number of delicious food dishes on select Saturdays. Additionally, a number of other neighbors set up flea markets where they sell clothing, jewelry, and other items.
Since we started our stand on June 4th, we have painted the fence around the Neighborhood Triangle and we work with kids every week to keep filling the fence with artwork. Saturday mornings continue to bring positive energy as the community gathers together.
